Why a picture of a custom built car on a website featuring musical instruments?  A good question!  Hi, I'm Larry Julian from Richmond, Virginia.  I like to build things and the car pictured here is a replica of a 1934 Mercedes Benz 500K that I built with my own two hands, even though some might question my skills as a mechanic.  Fortunately, I had a good manual with lots of pictures to guide my progress, and the car was titled and put on the road in 1998.  Needless to say, I get lots of comments when driving it, as well as questions from car enthusiasts and curious onlookers.  It is indeed a good conversation starter.

My background is varied and includes the following:

  • A B.S. degree in instrumental music from East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee
  • A Public school band director in the 60's and 70's
  • A change in careers to the field of organization and management development
  • A Masters degree in Human Resource Development from The George Washington University
  • A small consulting practice, primarily in the area of assessment centers with a focus on management and leadership development for prospective managers from various types of organizations
  • Certified as a Christian mediator and conciliator by Peacemaker Ministries.

New Band Instruments and Accessories

Even though I have not been involved in teaching for several years, my love for music led to my desire to establish an internet presence featuring new musical instruments and accessories.  If you explore our website, you will see that we have a wide selection of new instruments for both the beginning, as well as the more advanced musician.  It has been a few years since I was active in the music profession, but recent forays into music stores demonstrated just how much costs have gone up over time, which leads to our desire to offer quality instruments at competitive prices.

Musical Instrument Lamps

It was while I was still in the teaching profession that I was visiting in the home of a fellow band director and my attention was drawn to a clarinet lamp in his den.  My first thought was that this is a unique idea that others might enjoy.  A short time later, I went to my favorite music dealer to inquire about any old or used instruments that he might have in his storeroom and subsequently left with 3 clarinets, two wooden and one metal, and one trumpet. Over time, all of them were turned into custom lamps.  In addition, I retrieved my younger brother's high school Alto Saxophone from my Father's attic and transformed it into a lamp as a Christmas present for him.  Some of the pictures of the lamps that you see on this website are the original ones that I built, and are still on display in my home, such as the metal clarinet pictured below, sitting on my piano, as well as the trombone pictured on the right that I played in High School over 50 years ago.

It has been my desire for quite sometime to offer others a variety of unique lamps made from actual musical instruments.  Some will not be playable any longer because of modifications that may have to be made to them.  All are unique in their design, with no two being exactly alike.  As a result, the one that you order and receive may not be an exact replica of the those pictured on this website.
